In 2018 the band Smoug from Toyama, Japan collaborated with NOUSAKU, a 100-year-old local Japanese casting foundry, to create a concept album called Cast.NOUSAKU produces traditional casted pieces, such as Buddhist ritual objects, tea sets, and vases all made from melted brass, tin, and bronze. The members of Smoug recorded the environmental sounds within the factory. The ambient recorded sounds create a backdrop for the five-member electronica and post-rock band’s ethereal music. The concept is to combine the traditional arts of the region with modern music.
