I promised my self that I wouldn't write a lockdown song, because I knew that every one would be doing the exact same thing. Then I wrote 12. Ah well.To be fair, it was difficult not to write about everything that has been going on this year. The events that have transpired since the outbreak of the virus have affected every single person on the planet, so I kind of had to write about how it was affecting me.Knowing that I wouldn't be able to get into a, "proper", studio anytime soon, I decided to have a crack at it myself at home. My first 4 albums were recorded at home, but I know that they do sound like it too. So I was determined to do better with this one.Just before lockdown I could see that I was about to spend a long time stuck in my house, so I knew that I needed a project to keep me busy. I bought a second hand MacBook, and Logic, and spent the next month watching YouTube videos about how to use them. With additional tech support from Jon Buckett, and Dan O'Dell, plus additional instrumentation from Tom Granville, Chis Webb, and Dan O'Dell, I think that I have done the best that I could do, given the fact that I am very new to the software.I learned a lot about recording from Sam Bates when we made I Know My Place, and from Jon Buckett, when we made Lostfolk, and I tried to bring some of those techniques to the recording of this album. Each song is about a different aspect of how the lockdown affected me, and the way that I was thinking and feeling. Hopefully some people can relate to some of it.This is also the first album that I have ever made that don't have any Benny Wain playing fiddle on it. I did ask Ben if he wanted to play on it, but it just never happened. It feels weird to have written an album that almost certainly will never be toured. Ah well, it did what it was supposed to do - it kept me busy.I hope you like it.
