Story
Kendall Dungey, a Navy airman from South Dakota briefly assigned to the Quonset Point Naval Air Station, marries a Rhode Island girl in wartime 1943. Several months later - with the couple expecting a child - his B-24, a submarine hunter, vanishes over the Atlantic near France. Born three months later and now retired in North Kingstown, his daughter, Mayli-Anne "Lee" Waterbury, "meets" him late in her life via letters he wrote his mother. She also learns that her dad and his crew-mates carried out a valorous action for which they went unrecognized. A maritime historian tells of the exploits of Kendall Dungey, father of Lee Waterbury, of North Kingstown, as his B-24 anti-submarine aircraft exchanges fire with the German submarine off Bermuda in August 1943.
