When we fill a glass with water or take a shower we seldom pause to consider where our water comes from or if it is safe to drink. While drinking water safety begins at the water company's treatment facility, we all have a part to play to insure the safety of our water. Backflow and backsiphonage are two dangerous conditions which result from a loss of pressure in the water main due to, for example, a pipe break. In this short video Chip Matthews introduces the viewer to the concepts needed to understand backflow and backsiphonage, and describes simple measures we can all take to minimize the potential for drinking water contamination. Chip Matthews is a licensed master plumber and TREEO certified backflow instructor. He and his company Integrated Cross-Connection Partners, strive to educate the public and businesses about drinking water safety, and best practices for non-potable water management.
