Story
The wagon train is visited by troopers who have come to arrest Duke Shannon. Duke and Chris return with the troopers to town where they are told that Duke is under investigation for the deaths of a group he guided into the badlands as he was the only one to return. The father of the leader of the group is a senator who has come along for the investigation. Duke had written to the father about the expedition but he did not fully say what happened. Major Ogden will lead a party which includes Duke and the Senator to retrace the steps of expedition. Duke explains that although the son Andy was supposedly the leader, his cousin George who was raised by the Senator was the real leader. George not only hired two additional men to help, he brought along a saloon girl for his company. Traveling in the hottest part of the year, problems cropped up quickly. As Duke explains each problem, the Major refuses to believe him.
