Story
Flint, Hawks and Wooster are leading a small group of wagons split off the main train to the Dakotas. A massive rain storm floods a river crossing. The options are to turn around or cross Sioux burial grounds hoping to make it through before the rain ends and the Sioux are out. Samuel Bleymier is a believer in signs and omens. He keeps his daughter Belle on a short leash. He says the signs indicate they should turn back. Flint takes a vote with Justin Claiborne casting the deciding vote to cross the Sioux grounds. Bleymier's wagon breaks a wheel after being stuck in a mud hole. He and Hawks with another man stay to fix the wheel while the rest go on. Belle rides with Wooster and a relationship has developed between her and Justin with plans to marry. When the rain clears, Justin decides to go on horseback to find her father's wagon. The wagon is destroyed by the Sioux but Hawks and Bleymier are alive. Hawks uses the horse to warn the others while Justin and Bleymier go on foot. Hawks ...
