Story
The gangsters arrive to make their claim on Caroline. When they see the grandeur of Jed and Iris's home, they up their demands. The penniless Caroline must simultaneously oversee a magnificent soiree and avoid a violent end.
William, though involved with Iris, takes an unexpected shining to Caroline. She is touched by his offer to devise a payment plan but has no faith it will satisfy the loan sharks. The only solution she sees is to give them Iris's huge diamond engagement ring. Caroline is torn by furious guilt - her life may just depend upon stealing from her loyal, loving employers.
Louise and Jed share an intimate moment away from the party. Waiter Toby succeeds in sequestering Jed in the study, and desperately tries to impress him with his credentials.
Jed dismays Iris's toyboy William by suggesting it won't be long before Iris is bored with him. Despite Jed's obnoxious pomposity, Iris cannot shrug off cherished memories of their early years.
Jed shares a drink with his dear friends...
