Story
Louis Brandt is the lone holdout on a hung jury where the Prestons are representing the defendant against a manslaughter charge. Brandt's brother-in-law, George Capp, is a small time gambler who talked Brandt into taking $5,000 for his vote of not guilty. Capp tells Brandt that the defendant wanted a not guilty verdict not just a not guilty vote and refuses to pay. When Brandt threatens to go to the District Attorney, Capp tells the defendant that unless Brandt is paid $2,000 in addition to the $5,000 he supposedly received Brandt will tell all. When Capp goes to collect the additional money, the defendant's henchmen beat him up. Brandt goes to the younger Preston's apartment to complain about the beating and they are both taken down to the precinct by the police who were following Brandt. The District Attorney does not have enough evidence to file criminal charges against Preston but he does file a complaint with the New York Bar.
