Story
Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel review four new movies and pick their Dogs of the Week. They split on the horror thriller, Fade to Black (1980), about a homicidal teenage boy obsessed with old movies. Ebert liked its quirkiness; Siskel found it too routine and overly violent. They both recommend the searing political drama, The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith (1978), about an Australian aborigine who takes revenge on Whites, although they disagree about the main character's motivations. They split on The Idolmaker (1980) with Ray Sharkey as a rock-and-roll promoter. They both liked the musical performers, but only Ebert liked Sharkey: Siskel thought his acting was overdone. Both were disappointed by Jean Luc Godard's return to directing after eight years, Sauve qui peut (la vie) (1980). They feel he is delivering the same old stuff. Ebert's Dog of the Week is La rebelión de las muertas (1973); Siskel's is Battle Beyond the Stars (1980).
