Story
The mayoress of a tiny shepherds village is murdered, her corpse laid out for wolves to devour. Her election ended the long reign of an Italian family which champions the opposition against her reintroduction of wolves from Italy. She just welcomed as paying guest famous novelist Pauline Domergue, whom inspector detective Lucas Auriol admires, yet she asks an inside interview from captain Martin Bernier. She's part of secret relationships the team must untangle; including the mayoress's stifled straights AAs step-son Sebastien, who mistook her scorned lover for a mugger.
