Story
Ed Church, a veteran newspaper reporter who's investigating an extortion racket, hasn't checked in with his boss (the editor) in over a day. Ed's an alcoholic, although sober for 6 months, so the editor hires Richard Diamond to find Ed and see if he's drunk somewhere or in trouble with the racketeers. The extortion story is big, so the editor doesn't want to involve the police or anyone else yet. Diamond does find Ed drunk and passed out at an acquaintance's home, but there's more to it than the man just falling off the wagon.
