Story
Rhoda and Joe are out for dinner celebrating the first anniversary of what has so far been a happy marriage. The anniversary dinner is anything but, which starts off badly then goes downhill. First, they are made to wait what they consider an unreasonable amount of time for a table. Second, while Joe goes to speak to the maître d' about the wait, an obnoxious man tries to pick up Rhoda, a situation which she is able to neutralize on her own. And third, Joe, who catches the end of Rhoda and the obnoxious man's encounter, feels the need to defend Rhoda's honor by going outside to fight the man, which in turn takes place instead of dinner. It's not so much the fact that Joe got the worst between the men in the fight that concerned Rhoda, it was that Rhoda felt she handled the situation to its conclusion before Joe even arrived on the scene, and thus he got into the fight more for himself, to show that he is a "man", than for her.
