Story
Mr. Eldridge (George Hall) is looking forward to a visit by an old friend, Pepper Canarsie (Eddie Bracken) a song-and-dance man from their vaudeville days. After a cheerful reunion, Mr. Eldridge is disappointed to find that Pepper is there to shill for the "Crescendo Hearing Aid Company," and even though his hearing is fine, he pretends to miss his cues on the air. The Crescendo representative turns out to be none other than Blair Foley (Michael Patrick McGrath), the brother of WENN's sound effects man Mr. Foley (Tom Beckett). Blair's overbearing personality rubs everyone the wrong way, and seems actually painful to Mr. Foley. Meanwhile, Mackie Bloom (Christopher Murney) has been doing comedy monologues (imitating Bob Hope) for "Pepsamint Toothpaste," but is frustrated by the lack of laughter as feedback. He asks Mr. Foley to come up with a solution and Mr. Foley invents a laugh machine, which can play back real sounding laughter on the air. Mackie is thrilled, but he goes a little ...
