Story
The episode begins with Mackie Bloom's (Christopher Murney) humorous commentary on the news, which turns serious when he announces on the air that Jeff Singer (Hugh O'Gorman) is returning to Pittsburgh after being injured by a bomb in London and Victor Comstock (John Bedford Lloyd) was killed in the same attack. Betty Roberts (Amanda Naughton) is taking Victor's death hard and has barricaded herself in the writer's room, but the scripts she is turning out are devoid of any drama. As she explains (without knowing she is doing so) to Mr. Eldridge (George Hall), she wants her characters to have the chance to have a happy ending-- the chance she didn't get with Victor. Meanwhile, Scott Sherwood (Kevin O'Rourke) is trying to keep sponsors from bolting and steps to the microphone during a minute of silence Betty ordered in memory of Victor, delivering an unscheduled ad for corned beef hash.
