Story
Ross brings his banker to snickering despair with a plan to risk all his assets to buy the collapsed Warleggan mine. Ross finally gets the magistrate to consider clearing Ned if he keeps his nose clean, but the hothead gets dragged along in public protests stirred by traitor maid Tess, which opens Demelza's eyes. Dwight's gentle methods and confrontation with Elisabeth's tomb sort of restore George to his unbending self. Ross finds lonely Valentine wandering and takes him to the 'miner kids school'. Ross prevents Ned and Tess's grim party of destitute French revolution fans setting fire to the Warleggan estate by inspiring George to reopen the mine. Geoffrey Charles is desperate when Cecily coldly announces her father promised George her hand as good business, elated when she takes Demelza's word his love declaration is worth far more and proposes to elope.
