Story
The girls are trying to learn some Japanese to make Betty Jo's long time Japanese pen pal, Nobuko Takamura, feel at home for her visit. Beyond visiting with Betty Jo, Nobuko has come to the US to attend college to improve her English so that she can teach it back in Japan, and also in the process learn American customs. The most difficult American custom for Nobuko to learn may be how to make an American man feel useful by helping the "helpless" American woman, after growing up learning that it is a woman's place to serve the men.
