Story
On this episode of My Naked Secret we meet 48 year old mum of three Cheryl, who has lived for nearly 30 years with facial paralysis. At the age of just 20 Cheryl was struck down by a stroke which left her wheelchair bound and with one side of her face frozen. Following life-saving surgery she was unable to care for herself but, with the love and support of her husband and staggering determination, she fought to walk again. Cheryl went on to have 3 daughters and 20 years ago had corrective cosmetic surgery to return the symmetry to her face and repair facial nerves damaged by post stroke emergency surgery. Always putting her family before her own needs, Cheryl has struggled every single day to live her life facing hurtful comments from strangers. As she ages, the side of her face unaffected by the stroke is now drooping, creating a very asymmetrical face. She sees further surgery as the only way to rebuild her battered confidence.
