Story
While Tess and Nick work to set up a pump in the dam, talking wedding plans, Tess loses her engagement ring. Nick dives underwater to retrieve it, but he's under for such a long time that Tess begins to panic, thinking that he's drowned. She's relieved when Nick eventually resurfaces with the ring, but the fright stays with her for days. Feeling that she's been given an omen, Tess becomes increasingly afraid, for Nick, for Charlotte, even for the safety of the pregnant ewes, which she insists be brought in to the house paddock for lambing. Her anxiety grows when, as a part of a CFS recruitment drive being held out at Drovers, Nick takes on the role of a road accident victim. Tess, seeing Nick apparently unconscious, hyperventilates and faints. On recovering Tess protests that she's fine. However, she eventually comes to see the reason for her fear: experience has taught her that she loses all the people she loves.
