Story
The judges and the contestants took a trip to California for the weekly challenges. Each contestant bought one ingredient to make up the Mystery Box: Mimi chose short ribs, Elena fennel pollen, Brett fennel goat's cheese, Harry Dungeness crab, Matt 100% Ecuadorian chocolate, Trent tangelos and Elise golden beets. At Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, they had 60 minutes to cook their dishes. Matt won the advantage for the Invention test, and picked beef as the core ingredient from produce chosen by local farmers. With 60 minutes, contestants had an open pantry from any of the produce to prepare a dish, with the winning dish receiving the first place in a challenge to win a fast-track to Finals Week. Elise and Trent's dishes were declared the best, with the latter's spiced walnut and butter sirloin winning him the Invention test and its advantage.
