Story
Richard Cypher's happy youth ends abruptly after Kahlan, a white witch from an ancient order, magically crosses the near-impenetrable border from the Midlands, Darken Rahl's grim D'Haran empire, to his own, yet pacific world. Richard's father George Cypher is killed, actually by Ranssyn Fane, an officer pursuing Kahlan, but he manages to make even Richard's big brother, the local first counselor Michael. Kahlna finds the great wizard Zeddicus "Zed" Zu'l Zorander and makes him help her explain to Richard his destiny, actually being adopted by George. Richard rejects it, but sword and magical book that come with it soon persuade him to accept becoming the Seeker, destined to stop Rahlan's bid to establish a dark world rule.
