Story
Chicago-based racketeer Sam Lane hires a professional killer to find and murder George and Tony Santell before they can testify against Lane at an upcoming trial. The killer is able to murder George at the brothers' ranch, but he must locate Tony in the small town of Chatsworth. He learns that Tony is on a picnic with his girlfriend Shirley Conway and tracks them to the picnic grounds. Dan Mathews and Sergeant Morse investigate George's murder and are able to learn of Tony and Shirley's peril. The killer takes Tony from the picnic grounds in his rented car, but Shirley is able to provide Dan with a description of the car and the killer. Dan arrives in time to prevent the killing, but the killer escapes temporarily by getting on a passing bus. Dan gets on the same bus, but two passengers fit the killer's description and he must use all the savvy at his command to avoid the potentially tragic mistake of accosting the wrong man.
