Story
Stefan is miserable, having lost his family by Sonya's cowardly flight. Wolfgang and Joseph bizarrely prevent Marianne from feeling the same by being among many local victims of an epidemic. The village's most urgent problem, possibly the root cause, is a leak in the water-works. Stefan rightly suspects the leak is in an outdated pipe, but has to fight his forestry colleague and superior to get proper equipment used. A lady veterinarian passing by meets Stefan in unfortunate circumstances, but they get on remarkably well.
