Story
In 1988, sheltered suburban teen Tammy Ellis met "bad boy" David Gatlin, 17, outside of Jackson, MS. In addition to his ability to charm her, at 15, she is impressed with David's self-inflicted gun shot wound to his mid-section, in order to gain the attention of an ex-girlfriend. Sensing obvious trouble for their daughter, Tammy's protective parents forbid her to date David. This restriction only succeeds in sparking Tammy's desire to secretly see him more. The Ellises then take extreme action--Tammy is committed to a psychiatric ward for a "behavioral disorder." When the 30-day confinement ends, Tammy is released only to find, to her dismay, that David has abandoned her to join the National Guard, sans warning nor explanation. Even so, after four years of pining for David, he abruptly turns up at her doorstep when his stint is over. The young couple seem to pick up where they left off.
