Story
The November fog has allowed a convicted murderer to escape from Strangeways prison just a few miles away from the factory. The National Blood Service comes to encourage people to donate - Bren's secret fear of needles means she feels faint whenever they are mentioned and refuses to give blood, causing her colleagues to speculate that she might be pregnant. Jean talks about her handsome new boyfriend but when he arrives to pick her up, Philippa panics and calls the police, thinking he is the escaped convict. In the confusion, the real fugitive, disguised as one of the nurses, escapes. Philippa tries to pluck up the courage to leave Mr Michael and is furious when he dumps her just before she gets round to it.
